January Meeting - IN PERSON - Special Guest Speaker Kirsten Hines!

Wild Florida: An Animal Odyssey by Kirsten Hines

Florida is widely known for its alligators, panthers, pythons, and pesky mosquitoes, but did you know it also has crocodiles, bears, scarlet-striped snakes, and more species of fireflies than any other state?

How about a tiny lizard that swims through central Florida’s ancient sand dunes, a red widow spider that hides in palmettos, or that wild flamingos, common two centuries ago, are reappearing?

Join author, wildlife photographer, and conservationist Kirsten Hines for a visual and descriptive journey from the temperate Panhandle through the state’s myriad habitats all the way to the tropical islands of Dry Tortugas National Park, deep into Florida’s wilds to explore its impressive array of animals as captured in her latest book Wild Florida: An Animal Odyssey.

We’re starting the year out with a bang, a very special guest speaker, author, conservationist, AND wildlife photographer Kirsten Hines! Some of you that have been members for a while may remember Kirsten gave a talk to us back in February of 2018. Kirsten is based here in Miami, but is a world traveler. We’re so lucky to have her back again.

Back in 2018 she had just released her book, Images of Modern America, Biscayne National Park, and as of the meeting date, will have released another book called Wild Florida: An Animal Odyssey, as well as a field guide for native Florida birds. She also has other books on south Florida, Dry Tortugas, Everglades, and Key Biscayne to name a few. I encourage you to take a look at her website and see all the books she has to offer.

Happy half-hour starts at 6:30pm, meeting begins at 7. Hope to see you all there!
