CANCELLED! - SFNPCC Camp-Out Dinner Island Ranch Storm & Night Photography

  • Dinner Island Ranch 17781 Co Rd 833 Clewiston, FL 33440 (map)

6/2/22 Update - Due to a tropical system floating up from the Yucatan, we’ve decided to cancel this event and just plan for more in the fall. Sorry folks!

Camping in the dark night skies of Dinner Island Ranch, what could be better?

Sunrise: 6:30am - Sunset: 8:10pm

Night Photography

On Friday June 3rd, the moon sets near midnight, and what moon there is will be only 16% illuminated. On Saturday June 4th the moon sets at around 12:30am and will be 24% illuminated. I particularly like a bit of moon to give a little light on the landscape. Astronomical twilight ends at around 9:30pm both nights and the Milky Way SHOULD be breaking the horizon as soon as it’s dark enough in the east/southeast skies. What does that mean? We can see the Milky Way as soon as it’s dark enough, as long as the weather cooperates.

Camping

Camping at Dinner Island Ranch. There are 2 campsites available for all types of camping.

Here’s my rudimentary map showing the layout of Dinner Island Ranch as far as the campgrounds and entrance is concerned.

One is out in the open called Kowechobe Campground. See diagram below.

The other campground is in the trees and called Hammock Campground and is directly across the dirt road on the left. See diagram below.

Click HERE for the FWC website for all the camping info. You will need a permit to camp. If you plan on camping you will have to request your own permit. They are free but you have to call them, or book online, to receive it. To book online click the above link and scroll to the bottom, or you can call the number (561) 625-5122. The SFNPCC WILL NOT book the campsites for you.

I don’t anticipate it being crowded, but if you want to be sure to get a campsite, make a note to call them after May 20th to secure your campsite. I will post a reminder on the Facebook event to remind everyone.

As always, please RSVP to info@sfnpcc.org to let us know you’ll be coming along, whether you plan on camping or not, just so we know who to expect.

Hope to see you all there!!
