2016 Big Cypress Swamp Heritage Festival

  • Big Cypress Natl. Preserve Visitor's Center 33000 Tamiami Trail East Ochopee, FL, 34141 United States (map)

This is not a "SFNPCC" club event, but our own Robert Chaplain will be out there promoting his book "Everglades National Park, a Photographic Destination". Check out the website below for specific details.

Click here for information on the 2016 festival.

Many "glades glitterati" (yes, I made that up) will be there, such as Clyde Butcher (no intro needed, I hope), Rick Smith (the son of author Patrick Smith who wrote "A Land Remembered", a beautifully told story of the REAL Florida, which I highly recommend reading and think should be a prerequisite for all Florida residents), and Franklin Adams (a long time gladesman and conservationist). There is no charge to listen to their presentations but you MUST PRE-REGISTER to attend. Like I said, be sure to visit the website listed above.

Other notables are:  Cesar Becerra (historian and Everglades evangelist), Amy Bennett Williams, Luke Gommerman (a seasonal park ranger, joined by others from the International Dark-Sky Association to discuss Starry, Starry Nights), and music by J Robert, Cindy Hackney and Raiford Starke. Food will be provided by Camellia Street Grill of Everglades City.

We all hope you can attend this great event. Shortly after we will be heading over to (probably) Kirby Storter Wayside Park to shoot the sunset and maybe star trails as our SFNPCC field trip (see other event for more details on that).

This event is made possible through the support of the South Florida National Parks Trust, the Everglades Association and other generous supporters.
