We haven’t been to DIR in a long while. It’ll be a great trip. It’s a bit out of the way, but so worth the extra effort. For those that don’t know, it’s a working cattle ranch that’s also a wildlife management area. If you’d like to learn more, check out their WEBSITE. For the location, the map is linked to the left.
Depending on weather conditions, we could get afternoon thunderstorms, and we can drive the loop and explore. Then we’ll find a nice spot for a sunset, and if you like, stick around for some night photography. You can join us for as much or little as you like.

Make sure you have a full tank of gas before you go. That’s not a place you want to run of out fuel.
CAMERA GEAR
As far as what camera gear to bring, I’d say bring it all. We generally shoot out of our vehicles so carrying gear isn’t an issue. Don’t forget your tripod!
REFRESHMENTS
Highly recommend packing a cooler full of goodies, water, or other liquid refreshments, ice, and snacks. It’s hot, it’ll be hot then. Make sure you’re well hydrated and stay hydrated while there. There are no stores ‘around the corner’, we’re out in the middle of nowhere. If you forget something, the Miccosukee Service Plaza looks to be the last place to replenish supplies. Looks like a brand new store!
BUGS
You know the drill, it’s summer in Florida, there will be BUGS. Bring everything you’ve got. If you have a ThermaCell, make sure you have backup fuel cartridges and mats.

NEED A MEETING SPOT?
If there's interest, I can open up a meeting spot for those who are worried they won't find it. There's an exit off of I-75, exit #49, FL Hwy. 833/Snake Road, and there's a truck stop just to the north, the Miccosukee Service Plaza (see link below). If folks want, we can meet there at 1:45pm and leave at 2pm. But, YOU MUST RSVP and let me know. If no one lets me know, I WILL NOT STOP THERE.
