SFNPCC Field Trip - Sunset Shoot & Milky Way Madness!

  • Ernest Coe Visitor's Center 40001 State Highway 9336 Homestead, FL, 33034 United States (map)

Ahhh, summer in South Florida, perfect time to be eaten alive by mosquitoes. But not for us, because we have the tools and the power to overcome them. lol

Let’s do a double field trip tonight!

1st - Sunset is at 8:15, I want to be on location no later than 7:30. So we’ll be leaving the Ernest Coe Visitor’s center parking lot at 7PM SHARP. Please don’t be late. Our actual shooting location will be decided in the parking lot. It all depends on the weather!

2nd - Milky Way at 9:30pm - Location to be determined on site.

What to bring!

Camera, widest angle lens you have with the fastest aperture. Think 24mm or lower with an aperture of f4 or f3.5 or lower. F2.8 is the standard, f1.8 or lower is even more ideal. Bring what you have. You’ll need a sturdy tripod and a cable shutter release or intervalometer (I’ve been told wireless don’t work well at night, I could be wrong. If that’s what you have, bring it.) Other helpful items include a lens warmer or packs of mitten warmers you can stick to your lenses to keep them from fogging up as it gets colder at night.

Of course, come prepared with every tool in your arsenal to keep the mosquitoes at bay. DO NOT THINK THEY MIGHT NOT BITE! They will. I highly recommend ThermaCells, bug spray with DEET, and a bug jacket. Wearing light colored and lightweight clothing also helps.
