SFNPCC Mar. 1-3 - Camp-Out Dinner Island Ranch

  • Dinner Island Ranch 17781 Co Rd 833 Clewiston, FL 33440 (map)

Camping amongst the beautiful moss draped oaks, in beautiful cattle country, maybe some dark night skies, what could be better?

Sunrise: ~6:45am - Sunset: ~6:30pm

Camping

Camping at Dinner Island Ranch. There are 2 campgrounds available for all types of camping.

Here’s my rudimentary map showing the layout of Dinner Island Ranch as far as the campgrounds and entrance is concerned. FYI - the “check in” is for hunters, not CAMPERS. The “check in” is where we’ve meet in the past for day field trips. I circled it here so you understand the layout.

One is out in the open called Kowechobe Campground. See diagram below. I would only camp here if there was nothing else. Keep scrolling for the Hammock Campground.

The other campground is amongst the moss draped oak trees and called Hammock Campground and is directly across the dirt road from the previous campground. See diagram below. I’ve seen some photos and it’s beautiful. Definitely try to get a site here.

Click HERE for the FWC website for all the camping info. You will need a permit to camp. If you plan on camping you will have to request your own permit. They are free but you have to call them, or book online, to receive it. To book online click the above link and scroll all the way to the bottom, or you can call the number (561) 625-5122. It’s YOUR responsibility to book your campsites. The club is not allowed to book more than one site. Also, campsites are only bookable 14 days prior to the check in date. So for this particular weekend, that day would be Feb. 16th.

As always, please RSVP by clicking the button below to let us know you’ll be coming along.

FYI - We will be there during Turkey Hunting season. I honestly don’t think we’ll be in any danger at camp. I believe our camp it too close to a highway for hunting. But, when we’re out and about taking photographs, being aware of your surroundings and what’s possibly is helpful. If you want to know more about their hunting seasons, click HERE or call the WMA office and ask for specific details. I may do that myself. If so, I’ll add here what info I get. Until then, plan to wear bright colorful clothing, especially a shirt, and don’t dress like a turkey. lol Staying close to the roadways will pretty much ensure that we’ll be safe as well. Just be aware and don’t go off into an unknown area without safety precautions.
