Join us on Saturday, March 19th where Oscar will lead us all in a hike out in the Fakahatchee Strand State Park on an old road, now converted to a state park trail, and to a rustic cabin, similar to the Fakahatchee Hilton, but closer (only about a half mile walk in on an old roadbed). We’ll see lots of wildlife and wild plants! There's also a boardwalk that takes you to the house so you can explore, respectfully of course. What you'll see on the trail is similar to what you see on Loop Road, except no cars are allowed. Along the way you'll see wild orange trees, some deer, maybe a gator, and other wildlife. A great walk in the woods on a beautiful morning.
You MUST RSVP for this one by clicking email at info@sfnpcc.org This is a long drive to travel only to show up and find no one there. We need to know you’re coming. Thanks!
Where:
We’ll meet at the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park visitors center (address left). Once assembled, we’ll drive down Janes Memorial Scenic Drive and then hike in about a half mile to a rustic cabin.
When:
Meet at the park at 8:30am.
Extras:
Bring enough water. It’ll be mostly clear and sunny. Starting out around 70 degrees, but will climb to the mid-80s by the time we’ll be finished. Do not skimp on water! Also, bring bug spray. You just never know what you’ll get as far as mosquitoes. Also, wear long pants and long sleeved shirts. ThermaCells will probably be of no use out here because you’ll likely be moving. So you can leave those home.
If you think you’ll be hungry at some point, bring some snacks or energy bars along, or even a cooler to leave in your car with extra food and drinks for the ride home.
Hope to see you all here!
