SFNPCC "Walkabout - Art of Seeing" Field Trip - Everglades Pineland Trail

  • Pinelands Trailhead (map)

We’ll meet at the Pineland Trail and go on a ‘walkabout’. The trail is a round trip loop, approximately 1/4 of a mile long, that loops through a forest of pines, palmettos, and wildflowers. Here’s a link to the park’s website for more info https://www.nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/pineland-trail.htm

Here’s a Google map link to the exact location: https://goo.gl/maps/G4usNxR6tJkBjxLr6

Bring along a notebook and pen, or download a note taking app for your mobile device, or record it on your camera or cell phone if you like. We’ll slowly stroll and get inquisitive of our surroundings, let our minds wander and wonder. Then write down or photograph what captures our attention. Objects, shapes, textures, colors, light, transitions, layers, atmosphere etc.

The simple act of noticing will get you more engaged with the landscape. After noticing, you may feel strong emotions with these things. Make a mental note of these feelings, or, write those down too! Let your imaginations and creativity flow. These are the things YOU like; these are what elevates emotions within YOURSELF, these are things you can see on a regular basis, not only when you take a trip to an exotic location. Once you see and notice what instigates emotions within you, you’ll find your own passion in the landscape and be able to be more creative.
