WE'RE GOING! August Special Field Trip - Perseid Meteor Shower

Sorry, I can’t control the weather nor the celestials. Peak Perseid action is mid week this year.

If you can make it, that’s great! If not, try going out yourself the weekend before or the weekend after. According to the website listed below, it should be pretty active, but you do have a fuller moon that won’t set until late evening (10 or 11pm). In previous years I’ve been out in late July and caught meteors while shooing the milky way. You just never know.

Time and Date says…

The Perseids are one of the brighter meteor showers of the year. They occur every year between July 17 and August 24 and tend to peak around August 9-13.

There should be a good viewing window as the moon doesn’t rise until 1am on the 12th. Pending no clouds that is.

We’ll meet at 9pm at the Ernest Coe Visitor’s Center parking lot. Bob will be leading everyone. When he knows how many will be going he’ll decide on the location. Have fun everyone!! Fingers crossed for clear skies!
