May Meeting - Storm Chasing - Photographing Lightning

  • villages of homestead 1851 S Canal Dr Homestead, FL, 33035 United States (map)

MEETING DATE CHANGED FROM 1ST to 2ND THURSDAY OF THE MONTH.

Robert will be presenting his "How to Photograph Lightning" talk just in time for the stormy season here in Florida.

Florida is the number one state for lightning strikes. Being one of the most unpredictable forces of nature, lightning storms present a unique challenge for most photographers.  During this presentation Robert will talk about:

-What creates lightning
-Dangers of lightning
-The basics of looking at and understanding radar
-Camera set up
-Shooting with and without a lightning trigger
-Processing images

This meeting is particularly informative if you have ever wanted to shoot lightning or are planning on going to the Okeechobee “storm chasing” weekend trip, or possibly another club lightning event in the future. Hope to see you all at the meeting!

And for new members or those wishing to invest in an infrared shutter trigger, the LightningBug by MK Controls can be ordered here. http://mkcontrols.com/lightningbug/ Try and use promo code RChaplin2015 to get free shipping. It may still work, if not, it’s not terribly expensive. There are other models out there, so go ahead and do your research, and buy what you feel is best. Very helpful for getting those lightning shots when they happen.
