We plan on heading out to our beloved Everglades for a slough slog swamp walk through Double Dome. (Slough pronounced like slew.) We'll be meeting at Ernest Coe Visitor's center between 1:30 and 2pm. Our convoy of cars will be leaving at 2 sharp to get plenty of time in the dome. Some of us are planning on shooting the sunset after we're done slogging. If you're interested, you're more than welcome to stick around!
If you really want to get up close and personal with the Everglades, this is your chance. Visitors can literally connect with the 'Glades as they experience water sloshing around their legs and shoes squishing into soft mud. We'll "wade through the river of grass into the shadows of a ‘gator hole’ or cypress dome," we warn you to "expect to get wet and/or muddy." 'Sloggers' must wear lace-up shoes, socks, and long pants.
With only the sound of the wind and your footsteps, explore a side of the Everglades that most people never see by getting your feet wet in an off-trail hike. Slough slogging gives you a hands-on view of the River of Grass and reveals the hidden world of a cypress dome. Join us on this slough slog for a walk into this fascinating environment.
