Summer is almost here!Summer is a time when many of us lay low, hunker down, and enjoy our time in the cool comfort of our air conditioned homes. But I beg you to venture out in the the wilds every once in a while. There’s drama in them thar skies! While the heat and humidity may seem oppressive, once you get out into the elements, you’ll find it’s not so bad. I notice at least a 10 degree drop in temps when I get out of the city. Granted, I’d steer clear of mid-day (10am - 3pm), unless you have some cloudy conditions. But earlier in the morning and later in the afternoon, that’s when the good stuff happens. Just go… pull over on the side of the road somewhere and see what you can see. You might find something very cool! And if not, hop back in your AC car (be sure to keep your camera and lenses away from very cold AC vents in your car and home before going out into the heat - they’ll fog up something awful) and drive a little further and look for something else. Besides, you have the “4 for 4” Summer Challenge to tackle. Summer is the best time to find different types of light. Go out and enjoy it. A long time ago I wrote a blog post about how to survive in the Everglades during summer or any time, really. I’ve updated that blogpost to include some other cool things to make life in the elements more bearable. Click the link here to read that blog post. I’m a little behind on the YouTube uploads, but I guarantee they’ll be up by the end of the week, if not sooner. 😁 All of our recorded meetings and Zooms will be on our website then. So what can we look forward to in June? Wednesday the 3rd, I’ll be going over the many ways to merge multiple images to create something better than the sum of its parts. HDRs or “exposure blends”, panoramas, focus stacks, and artsy-fartsy ICM/ACM. Saturday the 6th Robert’s taking us out to do some storm-chasing (or at least dramatic sky chasing) RSVP EARLY FOR THAT! Next Wednesday the 10th is our spring reveal for the “4 for 4” challenge! I’m really looking forward to that. (You still have until Friday to submit your images! - If you MUST wait, I’ll accept image sets until Sunday afternoon if you want to include something from Saturday.) Otherwise, you can save it for the Frame It on the 3rd Wednesday (the 17th), where, you guessed it, we’re showcasing our best dramatic skies. And finally, on the last Saturday of the month (27th), we’ll be meeting for a special learning field trip. I’ll be showing you all how to photograph the many ways to shoot multiple images so your in-computer blends go smoothly. It’ll be lots of fun, and afterward well try to catch a sunset! 🤗 So I hope to see you all at our many events this month! Don’t be shy. And be sure to RSVP for the in-person events. It helps more than you know. ————————————————————————————— SPRING ‘4 FOR 4’ PHOTO CHALLENGE IMAGES ARE DUE JUNE 5TH!Sets of images are due by Friday June 5th (with a short grace period for you late bloomers). Remember, this challenge is to pick a subject or scene and photograph it with 4 considerably different focal lengths (by considerable, I mean more than 20mm difference). And… June 1st starts our summer challenge! (my favorite!)
