Hello August!

Hope everyone is getting out and capturing the light for our 3rd quarterly photo challenge! This will take a little more dedication, but you can do it!! (I say that because I need to motivate myself as well haha.) The third quarterly photo challenge 4 Types of Light began June 1st!  

So what’s on the agenda for August? We have Hugh Hudson coming in for our meeting on the 12th to talk about photojournalism. That should be very interesting! Something a bit different than our usual. August is Perseid month, but again, unfortunately, the 2 peak days for shooting stars are weekdays. However, the Perseid “season” actually goes from July 17th to August 24th, so it’s likely we’ll get some shooting stars during our field trip on the 15th. Our Frame It on the 19th, will be another of the “in the style of”. Check out the website for all the details. And just because we can, Delfin is hosting a second field trip for those interested. We’re going to South Beach for some street photography!

I’ve also added a couple new sections below. In addition to the FCCC, I’ve added HCA and FNPA sections so you can see what’s coming up with those organizations that we participate in and support. Keep scrolling! 

As I always say, if you plan on attending any of our in-person field trips, please RSVP. Even if you change your mind later, its ok. As long as we have some idea of who might be there. That being said, I hope to see you all at our many events this month! Don’t be shy. Come on out and have some fun!

SUMMER ‘4 FOR 4’ PHOTO CHALLENGE
BEGAN JUNE 1ST!

3rd Quarter - Summer Challenge - Find a subject/scene and photograph it in 4 noticeably different types of light. MINIMAL processing as well with this one. Let the ambient light do the lighting and color work. Purpose is to capture different types of light, not create the light in the digital darkroom. Images are due by September 4th.

The FCCC will host a Judges training session on August 22 & 29.  The Primary Instructor will be Dr. Christine Cook, the current FCCC Director of Digital Competition and Chair of the FCCC Competition Committee.  The cost will be $35 for the entire course, including three classes, reviews of assignments between classes and an FCCC Judging Certificate, if you complete the course successfully.  If Interested, please contact Christine Cook at competitions@f3c.org.

The FCCC, along with Hunt’s Photo & Video, presents monthly free webinars on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The July 28th webinar was “Putting Your images to Work” by Jennifer Leigh Warner. If you want to be included in the next FREE webinar, be sure to ‘register’ with the FCCC (if you’re not already-see below) so you can be alerted to future free webinars. 

Did you know that membership in SFNPCC automatically gets you membership in the FCCC? Big thanks again to Hugh Hudson for volunteering to be our liaison between the Homestead Center for the Arts (HCA) and us. Click the link to find out more about the HCA and how you can join!

The theme for the next HCA Capri exhibit is “Seeing the Sky”. Dropoff is on Thursday, August 6th, from 5:30p to 7:00p. Size is restricted to no larger than 36 inches longest side, and must be ready to hang.

Only HCA members can participate. If you’re not already an HCA member you can click on the link and join online (it’s $20 a year), or you can drop Hugh an email and he’ll get you hooked up. Additional benefits of HCA membership include an artist page on HCA website and feature interviews on the HCA YouTube channel!

We’re still looking for a liaison between the the Florida National Parks Association (FNPA) and us. If you’re interested, send me an email and we can discuss.

If you are unaware, your full annual membership in the SFNPCC automatically gets you membership in the FNPA. You all should have received your updated membership cards a month or so ago, and you all should also be receiving their newsletters via email. There is a special event coming up on Friday, August 7th. “Capturing Biscayne: A Photography Workshop Cruise with Kirsten Hines! Click the link for more info and to sign up. Things you’ll get to see and experience:

Coastal Wildlife: birds in flight and perched on historic structures – cormorants, pelicans, and Brown Boobies – as well as chances to photograph the bay’s resident dolphins.
