HAPPY JULY EVERYONE!

What an interesting June we had! I want to apologize for having to cancel the few events we had planned. Sometimes these things can’t be helped! 

Our dramatic skies meeting with Robert Chaplin went very well, after all the technical issues. I want to thank Robert for taking the time to present his knowledge to all of us. I'm always amazed at the bits of info that still resonates, even after hearing the presentation a few times now. You can never hear it too often!

Then came our 3-part dramatic skies weekends, none of which quite worked out as we planned, but we tried! Que será, será! 

Our FrameIt went well! "Life is a Beach" was a great topic and we had lots of images reviewed. Delfin recorded it if you submitted images and didn't get to attend live. Go to the event page on our website, click the link and watch. 

Have you noticed anything different with this newsletter? If so, you’re not wrong, we’ve switched from MailChimp to Squarespace as our newsletter host. It just made more sense using the same host for our website as our newsletter. If anyone has any issues with the new format, please let me know.

MONTH 7 OF THE 12-MONTHS OF EVERGLADES!

Have you submitted your June images yet? Please send them to me when you get a chance. 

Need a refresher for this project? (Click HERE to see our original post.) In a nutshell, the project is open to all members in good standing, photos must be from somewhere in the greater Everglades ecosystem (from Shingle Creek (near Orlando) down to Flamingo), and participants must submit at least one image that was taken in each month, for all 12 months of 2025.

Our ultimate goal is to create a “book” with our images (but not set in stone), featuring everyone who completes the project. But you cannot miss any of the months! Based on participation, we will determine what kind of product we want to produce. Be it a hardcover book, a zine, or even a PDF e-book, or something else altogether! Its a work in progress. 

July photos must be taken between July 1st and July 31st. Submit the finished photo(s) by August 7th.

WED. JULY 9TH - MEETING

Tonight, Barb will be discussing how to photograph landscapes by moonlight!

Summertime in South Florida is extremely hot, as we all know. But rather than sitting home in our comfy AC controlled homes when it’s hot, we can take advantage of many variations of night photography - deep space, astro (stars and milky way), and landscapes by moonlight. 

Photographing moonlit landscapes isn’t difficult, but it does present some challenges. We’ll go over the limitations and offer some tips and tricks to take compelling compositions. 

This IS a hybrid meeting, meaning we’ll be meeting in person as well as doing a live broadcast via Zoom (which will also be recorded). After the meeting, the recording will be uploaded to our website. Link to the Zoom meeting is below. The invite will be sent out shortly before the meeting.

So join us in person or via Zoom. Meeting begins at 6pm, and finishes by 7:30. Afterward we can meet outside to sit and jibber-jabber as long you like.

SAT. JULY 12TH - FIELD TRIP

Come join us at Dinner Island Ranch for some late afternoon and evening photography. Perhaps we can capture some afternoon thunderstorms, a gorgeous sunset, and maybe some moonlit landscapes; whatever nature decides to give us. For sure, it’ll give us cows, and they’re just so cute! Most likely you’ll see many birds. Maybe even the elusive Crested Caracara!
